Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is a cutting-edge, tested, and proven short-term structured approach to couples counselling. Typically lasting between 8 and 20 sessions.

Benefits of EFT:

  • Improving communication

  • Reducing arguments

  • Repairing and building trust

  • Conflict resolution

  • Overcoming infidelity

  • Enhancing emotional and physical intimacy

  • Healing and improving our romantic relationships

  • Addressing historical trauma from past relationships impacting the present

The goal of EFT for Couples therapy is:

  • Create a more secure emotional attachment between two individuals.

  • Expand & re-organize key emotional responses.

  • Create a positive shift in partners' interactional positions & patterns.

  • Greater emotional awareness & well-being.

  • Greater coping ability with unhelpful emotions.

  • Effective restructuring of interactions in love relationships.

  • Improve the quality of communication between partners.

  • Build and/or rebuild trust.

Although EFT is very effective, couples who are in abusive relationships or currently participating in an affair or deception within the relationship are not recommended to participate in EFT treatment. For EFT to work optimally requires the therapist to foster a therapeutic environment that creates safety for both partners so they can be vulnerable and authentic.
