Individual Therapy

Navigating this world is hard and we are not meant to do it alone. Our specialized and experienced clinicians can support you on this journey so that we walk alongside you through the trenches of life. Whether it is becoming a parent, leaving a relationship, losing a pregnancyretiring, or starting a new job we are ready to weather the winds of change with you.

The goal of individual therapy is to increase understanding of one’s thoughts, behaviours, and emotions to help increase your well-being. In therapy, people learn how to effectively manage stress, interpersonal difficulties, mental illness, troubling situations, and traumatic experiences.

Clinicians at Cambrian Counselling and Wellness use the following therapy modalities in individual therapy with clients.

  • Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT): This is a type of therapy which helps clients understand the connections between their thoughts, beliefs, emotions and actions. Cognitive behavioral therapy empowers clients to change how they feel by changing the way they think.

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT): An offshoot of CBT, dialectical behavioural therapy is designed specifically to help clients with borderline personality disorder, but can be applied in multiple circumstances. The goal of DBT is for the therapist to help the patient in a non-judgmental way, and for the client to experience feelings and emotions in a non-judgmental way.

  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT): SFBT is a short-term goal-focused approach which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems. In the most basic sense, SFBT is a hope-friendly, positive emotion eliciting, future-oriented vehicle for formulating, motivating, achieving, and sustaining desired behavioural change.
